Is Everything Really Working?

I’ve been chasing little problems for the past couple of days. There’s no telling how long they’ve been problems, because the scripts generating the error reports were getting bounced by our mail server’s mailing list and this was way before I took my job. I found the bounces weren’t going anywhere either so the servers generating these were just sitting there. Granted, these weren’t errors affecting functionality to any degree, but still things that needed to be addressed.

As it turns out, it was a problem with the ezmlm subsystem being too strict about the emails it was receiving to our mailing list. Going into the directory for the mailing list, editing the .qmail-<mailing list> file and adding the -T option to the ezmlm command line relaxed the strict rules causing the mails to get kicked back because the address wasn’t in the To: or Cc: field.

That was my simple solution to the problem. Only now all the emails regarding errors with log rotation, missing files, failed updates, and configuration errors are sitting in my in-box. Mission accomplished.
